Mission and History:
Working nationwide, ITWorks provides economically disenfranchised populations throughout Israel with technical training, professional skills and job placement support, helping them launch a career in Israel’s thriving hi-tech and communications industries.
ITworks mission is to impact Israel’s employment map by closing the job placement and income gaps between social and ethnic groups, genders and Israel’s thriving center and flagging periphery. The organization’s programs promote personal empowerment and professional change through quality technological employment, while enabling the hi-tech boom to benefit all sectors of society.
ITWorks’ participants are recruited from Israel’s social, economic or geographic periphery, and include women, Arabs, Druze, Circassians, new immigrants, adults with intellectual and sensory disabilities, the Ultra- Orthodox community and more.
ITWorks cooperates with local and national bodies, as well as with Israel’s leading technology-based companies, to ensure that all programs are tailored both to the specific needs of each target group, and to the technological needs of local businesses.
ITWorks was established in 2006 by Executive Director, Ifat Baron. who was compelled to create technology based curricala to serve those capable and willing to work but without tools for obtaining and maintaining skilled positions.
Although the hi-tech industry is growing, there are still approximately 5,000 vacancies for basic entry-level positions. At the same time, Israel is experiencing rising unemployment and a work-force of unskilled laborers.
ITWorks has identified this paradox as key for marginalized communities to obtain skilled employment. In the past 5 years, over 1,800 participants from diverse backgrounds have completed ITWorks’ technological training and professional skills building programs, of which 70% are now employed in full-time positions in their new field.
Awards and Achievements: ITWorks was selected by the National Insurance Institute to be the sole non-profit organization out of 18 other vocational training services, to lead a three year campaign in which to implement its unique programs throughout Israel.
